In this 3.5-hour course, attendees will learn the basics of small-scale mushroom growing, as well as basic guidelines and best practices to integrate mushroom growing into your lifestyle, whether you just want a few pounds on hand each week or have dreams of running your own farm someday. You will also get a chance to suit up and make your very own fruiting block to take home and grow yourself!
About us: Shroomtown Fungi Collective is a Houston-based organization with a mission to make mushroom cultivation more accessible to everyone. Started in 2019 as a small-scale, home-based market farm, shifts in the collective consiousness during COVID inspired the founder to cease commercial production and pivot the organization's mission toward education, outreach, and community empowerment. We are now gradually evolving into a collectively-run organization, with fundraising efforts underway to eventually open our own "coworking space for mushroom growers" where collective members can share resources, supplies, and knowledge with each other, and start their own growing operations at a lower cost/risk. This class offering is our first public event since leaving the farmer's market scene in spring 2020. We believe in the power of mushrooms to help heal the world, and we want to spread the love to you!
